What to do in Gorizia
Gorizia is a small and quiet town which is about 20 kilometers from our B&B in San Giovanni al Natisone. Located on the Isonzo river, it experienced numerous war implications especially during the First World War and under the Austrian domination. It is a real border town, and it is no coincidence that the town is cut in two by the Slovenian border. The Slovenian half of the city is called Nova Gorica, the border has become a real tourist attraction at the square of the Transalpina Station.
Piazza della Vittoria is certainly one of the most beautiful views of Gorizia with its Austrian-style houses and the Baroque church of St. Ignatius.
On the hill overlooking the city you can visit the imposing castle of Gorizia, the village that surrounds it as well as the Museum of Fashion and Applied Arts.

At the castle of Gorizia it is also possible to visit the museum of the Great War and the museum of the Gorizia Middle Ages.
Numerous palaces and period residences embellish the city. Among all: Palazzo Attems Petzenstein and Palazzo dei Conti di Strassoldo.
Again with regard to the squares, Piazza Cavour is also worthy of note, with its sixteenth-century buildings and the Casa degli Ungrispach.
Finally, in Gorizia you can go shopping along the Corso that crosses the whole city, and which in its initial part is decorated with beautiful Victorian and Liberty style villas.
