The museum occupies the premises on the first floor of the villa de Brandis, built between 1718 and 1724 and donated, with all the furnishings, to the Municipality of San Giovanni al Natisone by Countess Caterina de Brandis, the last descendant of the noble family. Villa de Brandis preserves important artistic collections such as the Picture Gallery, with paintings between the 14th and 20th centuries, and a large number of original wooden furnishings and interesting furnishings (16th-19th century). The family library (about six thousand volumes published between 1501 and 1980), the photographic archive and the papers of the noble archive are located in the Civic Library, adjacent to the rooms where the museum is located.
